๐ The Art of Being a Girl ๐
There is an art to being a girl.
And no, I don't mean having the perfect hair, the cutest outfit, flawless makeup, or looking like you stepped out of a Pinterest board every morning. I'm talking about the little things. The tiny rituals, inside jokes, friendships, dreams, emotions, and moments that make girlhood feel like its own little world.
Sometimes I think being a girl means learning how to find beauty in the smallest things.
It's putting on lip gloss before leaving the house even when you're only going to the grocery store. It's wearing an outfit you absolutely love just because it makes you feel good. It's taking way too many pictures because you want to remember exactly how you looked and felt that day.
It's having a favorite perfume.
A favorite song.
A favorite pair of pajamas.
A favorite cafรฉ order.
A favorite movie that you've watched approximately 47 times.
It's the little things. ๐
๐ The Joy of Getting Ready ๐
One of my favorite things about being a girl is getting ready.
There is just something about standing in front of your mirror, putting on your favorite outfit, doing your hair, adding a little jewelry, and deciding what kind of mood you want to have that day.
Sometimes getting ready is practically an event.
Music playing. Skincare everywhere. Clothes covering the bed. Hair products on the counter. Lip gloss in every possible shade.
And somehow, after all of that chaos, you look in the mirror and think, Okayyy, I see you.
I think we underestimate how powerful it can be to simply enjoy getting dressed for yourself.
You don't always need somewhere special to go.
Sometimes you are the occasion. ๐
๐ Having Your Little Things ๐
I love the idea that every girl has a collection of little things that tell her story.
Maybe it's a jewelry box filled with pieces you've collected over the years.
Maybe it's a drawer full of old birthday cards.
Maybe it's a shelf covered in books, stuffed animals, trinkets, perfume bottles, or things you've picked up during your travels.
Maybe it's a journal filled with thoughts you don't say out loud.
Those things may not seem important to anyone else, but they mean something to you.
And that's what makes them special.
I think we're allowed to be sentimental.
We're allowed to keep the movie ticket.
We're allowed to save the handwritten note.
We're allowed to take pictures of our food because it was pretty.
We're allowed to buy the little trinket simply because it made us smile.
Not everything has to be practical.
Some things are just meant to make life sweeter. ๐งธ๐
๐ Girl Friendships Are Their Own Language ๐
There is something so special about having girlfriends.
The conversations that somehow last for hours.
The voice notes.
The random pictures.
The “OMG I HAVE TO TELL YOU SOMETHING.”
The laughing until your stomach hurts.
The getting ready together.
The deep conversations at midnight.
The way your friend can look at you for two seconds and already know exactly what's wrong.
Girl friendships can be such a beautiful part of growing up.
And as we get older, I think we realize that friendship isn't about having the biggest group of people around you. It's about having people who genuinely care about you.
The girls who celebrate your wins.
The girls who check on you.
The girls who let you be completely yourself.
Those friendships are precious. ๐ท
๐ Keep a Diary of Your Life ๐
Please write things down.
Seriously.
You don't have to write pages every night. Even a few sentences can become something you'll treasure later.
Write about the random Tuesday when you couldn't stop laughing.
Write about the outfit you loved.
Write down what song you've been playing nonstop.
Write about your dreams.
Write about the things you're learning.
Write about the people you love.
Write about who you are right now.
Because one day, you will be older and you'll want to remember this version of yourself.
The girl you are today deserves to be remembered too. ๐
๐ง Make Playlists for Your Life ๐ง
I firmly believe that every era of your life deserves a soundtrack.
There is the playlist for getting ready.
The playlist for cleaning your room.
The playlist for walking around the city.
The playlist for studying.
The playlist for when you're feeling emotional and staring dramatically out of the window like you're in a movie.
And then there are those songs that instantly transport you back to a specific time in your life.
That's the magic of music.
Years from now, you'll hear a song and suddenly remember exactly where you were, who you were with, and what life felt like.
So make the playlist.
Add the song.
Let yourself have your little musical eras. ๐ง๐
๐ธ Let Yourself Be Soft ๐ธ
I think girls are sometimes taught that softness is something we need to grow out of.
But I don't believe that.
You can be ambitious and soft.
You can be intelligent and soft.
You can have strong opinions and still love bows.
You can want a career and still dream about romance.
You can be independent and still appreciate being cared for.
You can be strong without becoming hard.
There is nothing wrong with having a gentle heart.
Protect it, yes.
But don't be ashamed of it.
The world can be overwhelming enough. I don't think we need to make ourselves less tender just to prove that we're strong.
๐ Romanticize the Ordinary ๐
Not every day is going to be exciting.
Some days are literally just school, work, errands, cleaning, homework, and going to bed.
But even ordinary days can have little moments of magic.
Put on your favorite pajamas.
Make your favorite drink.
Play music while you clean.
Open your curtains in the morning.
Put flowers somewhere in your room.
Take yourself on a little walk.
Wear the outfit you were saving for “somewhere special.”
Because here's the secret:
You don't have to wait for your life to become exciting before you start enjoying it.
You can enjoy it now.
๐ Have Dreams That Are Yours ๐
And perhaps the most important part of being a girl is learning who you are.
Not who your friends think you should be.
Not who social media tells you to be.
Not who other people expect you to be.
You.
Your dreams.
Your interests.
Your values.
Your goals.
Your weird little hobbies.
Your favorite things.
Your plans for the future.
It's okay if your life doesn't look exactly like everyone else's.
It's okay if you're still figuring yourself out.
Growing up is not about becoming a perfect version of yourself.
It's about discovering yourself.
And honestly?
I think that's one of the most beautiful parts.
๐ A Little Love Letter to Girlhood ๐
Maybe the art of being a girl isn't really about being perfect at all.
Maybe it's about finding beauty in your everyday life.
It's about laughing with your friends until you can't breathe.
It's about crying when you need to cry and laughing when you can.
It's about wearing pink because you love pink.
It's about changing your style ten times.
It's about making mistakes.
It's about discovering new music.
It's about falling in love with new hobbies.
It's about growing.
It's about becoming more confident in who you are.
It's about looking back at old pictures and realizing just how much you've changed.
And maybe someday, we'll look back at this version of ourselves and miss her.
So let's be kind to her.
Let's let her enjoy the little things.
Let's let her dream.
Let's let her be silly.
Let's let her wear the bows.
Let's let her take the pictures.
Let's let her buy the little trinket.
Let's let her dance around her room.
Let's let her romanticize her life.
Because there really is an art to being a girl.
And maybe the prettiest part is realizing that you get to create your own version of it. ๐๐
With love,
K. ๐ฉท๐ท
